Tips Easy Summer Hairstyles

The summer brings with it all kinds of activities, from weddings and beach trips to outdoor potlucks. In order to avoid wearing my hair the same exact way all season (in a messy bun on top of my head), I've compiled three easy hair styles that can be created in under five minutes.

The braided rose is a simple half-up style with two little braids that are then twisted together in the back of your head. It's one of those styles that looks a lot more complicated than it really is and would be ideal for a summertime wedding and is great paired with beachy waves.

Step 1: On one side of your hair, take a one-inch section and do a simple braid. Make sure to leave a bit of hair out in the front to frame your face.

Step 2: Bobby pin the braid end to the back, middle of your head. I used two bobby pins crossing over each other to make sure it stays very secure. At this point also give your hair a bit of volume at the top by slightly pressing upward when pinning.

Step 3: Repeat Step 1 on the other side.

Step 4: Repeat step 2, securing the second braid with bobby pins on top of the first braids' pins.

Step 5: Take approximately a two-inch segment of hair directly below the bobby pins.

Step 6: Wrap it around in a circular pattern on top of the bobby pins. Keep the entire "rose" look flat instead of creating a bun. Then take one bobby pin and secure the rose shape on top of the other bobby pins.

The nautical knot is a take on a classic bun or chignon. The end result is a clean, chic style that's great for warmer weather, since it keeps all of the hair off your neck.

Step 1: Tie your hair into a pony tail. You can do this anywhere you would like on the back of the head, I chose directly in the middle.

Step 2: Separate the pony tail in two pieces.

Step 3: Take the two pieces and simply tie them in a knot.

Step 4: Pull the two knotted sides up to the top of the bun and cross them over one another, covering the pony hail holder.

Step 5: Wrap the two pieces under the bun securing with as many bobby pins as needed since they will be hidden by the bun.

The side swept pony is a slightly retro look with an easy, tousled feel. This would work for anything from a bridal shower to happy hour drinks on a Friday night.

Step 1: Part your hair on one side of your head.

Step 2: Gather the hair from the parted side and bring it over to the other side of your head.

Step 3: Secure the hair with an elastic to create a nice low ponytail.

Step 4: Pull out a few strands of hair to help frame your face.

Step 5: Using your hand, lightly push your hair upward to create a bit of volume on top.

Step 6: Take about a one-inch piece of hair in the pony tail and wrap it around the elastic.

Step 7: Secure the wrapped piece with a bobby pin.
